Twitter co-founder Christopher Isaac “Biz” Stone has joined the board of directors of Chroma, the Swedish startup developing a new type of audiovisual entertainment for mobile devices.

Stone is expected to bring diverse expertise to the company, including design, product development, filmmaking, and brand scaling.

Stone was an early angel investor in Chroma alongside Pinterest founders Ben Silbermann and Evan Sharp. The company raised $5.4 million in seed funding from venture capitalists and individual investors.

Stone became interested in Chroma after meeting the company’s CEO and founder, Andreas Pihlström, through Sharp. They hit it off and soon began exchanging monthly phone calls.

In a statement, Pihlström praised Biz for the depth of knowledge in technology and design he brings to the table. He believes the company is now prepared to welcome a new era of innovative sound by combining technological prowess with foresight.

On the other hand, Stone cited the importance of surrounding himself with like-minded individuals with whom he could share ideas and work productively as a reason for joining Chroma.

The 48-year-old entrepreneur explained that everyone at Chroma is full of fresh ideas. Thus, the difficulty has been in defining the scope of their goal, as the team is relatively modest in size and must avoid overextending itself to achieve success.

The main goal, Stone explained, is to make listening to music and other sounds more participatory and immersive. Chroma believes that this means creating a sound-powered virtual environment that comes with interactive, dynamic visuals that users can explore and use for their ends.

Chroma’s first product is Lux Eterna, an iOS app created in collaboration with musician Alejandra Ghersi “Arca” Rodríguez. It provides a relaxing digital environment for music discovery, with Venezuelan producers, DJs, singers, and songwriters contributing to the space.

The app is similar to Web3 and metaverse ideas. It immerses users in music by transporting them to a virtual world.

Although the company’s initial focus will be on mobile devices, Stone said that Chroma’s technology would gain even more traction when Apple releases its virtual reality (VR) headset and metaverse gadgets become more widely available.
